Our Story

How it all started...

Our story begins with a commission and a need. There are nearly 5 million people in Metro Detroit. While it seems like there are a lot of churches, Metro Detroit is actually one of the most "unchurched" areas of the nation. The city of Livonia  has over 100,000 residents, and even though there are several churches in the city, there are still not nearly enough churches to serve our community! If we take Jesus' command to go and make disciples of all nations seriously, it has to begin with our own community (Matthew 28).

Our story 'begins' at Oak Pointe Church. In September of 2002, the Bell Creek Church Plant team began to pray and plan for the launch. With 40 adults and 30 kids, we set out and enjoyed our first service in the Franklin High School auditorium on March 2, 2003. This was only the beginning of God's faithfulness to us, and since that day, He has not ceased to provide for our church body. Our many years at Franklin High School forced us to depend on the Lord and served as a constant reminder that a church is not a building or a brand but a group of imperfect people who recognized their need for a savior and came together to celebrate good news.

Where we are headed...

After twelve years of gathering together at Franklin, in late 2014, God provided us with a church building. On March 1, 2015 we had our first service at 30000 5 Mile Road. We have been here ever since, serving God and loving others. Over the years we've grown to incorporate many different ministries to meet the needs of our church family, and our community. We've served and shared the good news about Jesus Christ in Livonia, Detroit, and around the world. And yet, after all these years, we haven't changed. We're not a building and we're not a brand. We're people. Imperfect (sometimes dysfunctional) people and families who have been saved by the grace of God and are striving to love God and our neighbors more. That's who the body of Christ is. That's who we are.
While we are thrilled to have our own beautiful church building in the heart of Livonia, our primary focus will always be on teaching the Word of God, Prayer, Discipleship, Service, and Outreach. Our story is continuing - come join us for worship Sundays 9:15 or 11:00 AM! God has already taken us on some unexpected twists and turns and we're excited to see what happens next!

WHY IS THE CHURCH CALLED BELL CREEK?

Bell Creek is a tributary of the Rouge River that runs throughout the city of Livonia. Our Lord commands us to go and make disciples of all nations, and that starts in our own neighborhoods. In the same way that Bell Creek winds and spreads throughout Livonia before flowing into other cities, Bell Creek Community Church has striven to spread the good news throughout our city, metro-Detroit, and the world.

WHO ARE WE AFFILIATED WITH?

We are not part of a denomination but we are connected theologically, locally, nationally and internationally by relationships with other evangelical churches and institutions for mutual encouragement and accountability.

We are also affiliated with various ministries throughout the metro-Detroit area. We partner with many different local organizations, including  Cru Inner-City Detroit, Another Day Resource Center, Westside Christian Academy, and New Life Rescue Mission.

We support missionaries around the world. A global ministry  we support is The Timothy Initiative which is a para church organization that does discipleship internationally.  Learn more about our outreach opportunities and how you can get connected.
